We've taken out the carpet in the lower living room and prepped the walls. There were tons of walls with water damage that was just painted over. We've fixed those and replaced a spot in the walls where they literally put paper on a fist sized hole and painted over it... There was also a spot where there was a small hole in the driveway, which they patched with a wall height 2x4. What.
The carpet and pad under it had to come up, in addition to the wood strips around the edges. The walls will all be painted grey, we decided on Dorian Grey. The dry bar was going to come out, but then it was difficult, so we're keeping it and painting it white. The trim around the whole painted area will be painted white as well.
We are getting white base boards, and Dad has worked up some cool tall base board idea for the sunken living room area. We should be painting tomorrow and the next day, and floors start immediately after. Everyone around the house has been pitching in and doing a great job, and my Dad and Elizabeth have helped as well. Pictures below!
And I found a lottery ticket from 1992, the year I was born.

The Rails come tumbling down
I took the rails off around the outside of the sunken living room, there is concrete and a layer of cheap wood under them. Laminate wood is getting installed next week! I'm also starting to get stuff off the walls, take off base boards, and prep the walls for paint.

Getting new Floors! Preliminary Pictures and Drawings
My dad is putting down new laminate floors for me in the living and dining room. This will replace the ancient green carpet. I think we'll also remove the carpet along the floors, and replace that with drywall. The whole room will be painted a light grey, with the floors being a light wood, like this. It's about 550 sqft counting the carpet that goes about 11" up the carpet.

HOT TUB!
I bought an inflatable Coleman Lay-Z Spa hot tub off of Amazon. It took 5 minutes to air up, 1.5 hours to fill with water, and it took about 12 hours to heat from 80 to 102 degrees. Trying it out tonight.

A/C Breaks, Bottle Share, Weekend Decorating
The A/C fan outside was running very loud on Saturday, and Sunday morning we noticed the house was warm, and the A/C wasn't blowing cold air. I changed the filter, thermostat batteries, and cleaned the fan on the outside unit. The A/C wasn't frozen over anywhere. We slept in the hot air on Sunday night, and I hired a dude to come out to check it. The A/C is just two years old, so the parts were covered under warranty. The culprit was a starting capacitor, which he changed in a minute.
I also hosted a bottle share on Friday night, the first of many to come at the house. We put lots of furniture outside, and Alex bought a nice wood futon and bench off Craigslist. The guy builds these pieces by hand out of all reclaimed materials! They're nice.
